History

George Kraus, Director (2002-2007)

The Center for Catalysis (CCAT) was established as an Institute for Physical Research and Technology (IPRT) center in May 2002 as the result of an initiative funded by the U.S. Department of Energy. This funding supported projects in four research areas:

  1. Green Chemistry Catalysis Laboratory
  2. Nanoscience and Catalysis
  3. Catalysis on the Solid-Liquid Interface
  4. Combinatorial Catalysis

Victor Lin, Director (2007-2010)

Victor Lin took over as CCAT’s director when George Kraus became IPRT’s director in 2007. Lin, a professor of chemistry at Iowa State, was particularly interested in using catalysts to create viable biorenewable energy.

Lin passed away on May 4, 2010, after a brief illness.
